A sexual predator named Albert Gardner, also known as "Joker" due to his face tattoos, faced a swift return to jail just one day after his release, as he removed his GPS ankle monitor.
Gardner, 29, hailing from Florida, had been serving a nine-and-a-half-year prison sentence for lewd and lascivious battery since June 2014.
The Hernando County Sheriff's Office had classified him as a sexual predator.
Despite regaining his freedom on July 7, Gardner's release was short-lived.
The very next day, he was arrested again, this time on charges of violating probation and tampering with the electronic monitoring device.
As the clock struck 2 am on July 8, law enforcement received a call about tampering with an electronic monitoring device at a Texaco gas station in Brooksville, specifically Ponce De Leone Boulevard.
At the scene, they were informed by a Federal Department of Corrections Officer that Gardner was the person in question.
Although the ankle monitor signaled from a 7-Eleven on South Broad Street, they couldn't locate him there.
However, they discovered his discarded ankle monitor in a trash can at the gas station.
Shortly afterward, deputies responded to an emergency call concerning Gardner and an overdose at an apartment complex.
Gardner's sister informed them that her brother had consumed an "unknown narcotic" and overdosed.
Acting quickly, they performed CPR and administered Narcan, saving Gardner's life.
Gardner was then taken to a local hospital, where he denied ingesting any substances, attributing his condition to a "grandmother seizure" as relayed by the deputies.
However, he was subsequently transported to the Hernando County Jail for medical treatment.
Gardner's criminal history dates back to 2012, when he was 13 years old and listed on the Florida Department of Law Enforcement's sexual predator list after receiving a delinquency adjudication for sexual battery on a victim under 12 years old.
His previous conviction for sexual battery in June 2014 had led to a nine-year and six-month prison sentence, followed by five years and six months of probation.
Despite being released after approximately nine years, Gardner's pattern of criminal behavior continued with the removal of his GPS tracker, leading to his prompt re-arrest and return to jail.
