Shocking Crime: South African Man Stabs Pregnant Wife to Death and Receives Life Sentence

In a heart-wrenching incident that occurred near Taung in Kolong village, North West, Thapelo Edwin Mojaki, 41, has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his 36-year-old pregnant wife, Matshidiso Catherine Mojaki.

The sentencing took place at the Taung Regional Court, where Mojaki pleaded guilty.

The tragic incident unfolded on October 9, 2022, as Matshidiso was on her way to catch a taxi to work, accompanied by their 16- and 18-year-old children.

Mojaki approached her, asking for money, and when she said she didn't have any, he resorted to violence, taking out sheep-shearing scissors and stabbing her multiple times.

Tragically, Matshidiso succumbed to her injuries on the scene.

Thapelo was apprehended by authorities the following day and was denied bail.

During the sentencing, State prosecutor Tecia Khula urged the court not to deviate from the prescribed minimum sentence, emphasizing that there were no compelling circumstances to warrant leniency.

Khula also highlighted the emotional trauma experienced by the couple's children, who witnessed their pregnant mother being fatally stabbed by their own father.

Such heart-wrenching incidents serve as reminders of the importance of addressing violence in our communities and safeguarding vulnerable individuals from harm.
