Suspected Armed Robber Escapes From Police Custody, Another Dies In Police Custody

Sahara Reporters has exclusively reported that one of the two suspected armed robbers caught operating in a tricycle, commonly known as Keke Marwa, and paraded by the Nigeria Police Force, Anambra State Command, has managed to escape from police custody.

In the incident, it was also learned that another suspect suffered severe torture at the hands of the officers and subsequently died in police custody.

The Anambra Police Command had announced the arrest of the two armed robbers who were allegedly involved in a gun duel with the police operatives in the Obosi area of the state.

The police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that the robbers were overwhelmed by the superior firepower of the officers, resulting in the arrest of two of them with gunshot wounds.

The arrested suspects were identified as Amaechi Precious from Obosi and Almazer Avalumo from Adikpo in Benue State.

However, multiple sources revealed to Sahara Reporters that the police authorities released the two suspects to a group called the Movement Against Cultism in Obosi shortly after the spokesman's statement.

According to these sources, the local vigilantes were the ones who apprehended the suspects with four pieces of Benue-made beretta, not the police as claimed.

The police allegedly allowed one of the suspects to escape, as he was considered a key player in supplying locally made pistols and ammunition to various criminal groups, including the Movement Against Cultism in Obosi.

These developments have raised concerns and questions about the actions of the police and their collaboration with private security groups in handling criminal cases.
