Teacher Arrested And Escapes Lynching After Being Caught Raping a Student In A Farm

A male teacher at a junior secondary school narrowly escaped being lynched after being caught in the act of raping a grade 7 pupil in a maize plantation located in Nandi County, Kenya.

The teacher, identified as Eric Rotich, 38, was discovered by angry members of the public who found him sexually assaulting the girl over the weekend.

Rotich had parked his motorcycle on the roadside and ambushed the pupil as she was heading home with maize flour from a nearby posho mill.

Distressed cries from the girl pleading for help drew the attention of the public, who swiftly intervened.

They apprehended Rotich in the maize farm and handed him over to the local authorities.

On Sunday, July 2, 2023, the Tindiret sub-county police commander, Mohammed Jireh, confirmed the teacher's arrest, assuring that he would be held accountable under the law.

The victim was immediately taken to Meteitei sub-district hospital for medical treatment and further investigations, given the gravity of the situation.

According to William Lulei, the Chief of Soba location, the suspect, along with the victim, was entrusted to his custody by concerned members of the public.

They were subsequently taken to Songhor police station, where the teacher is expected to appear before the Maraba law courts in Tinderet.

The accused teacher works at Sigoria Junior Secondary School, while his victim is enrolled in a neighboring junior secondary school.

Lulei revealed that the teacher narrowly avoided a violent confrontation with the enraged public, as the police arrived at the scene just in time after being summoned.
