10-Year-Old Zion Staples Found Dead in Garbage Can After He Was already dead for 7 Months

A woman from Illinois has been arrested after the discovery of her 10-year-old son's body in a garbage can last week.

The Rock Island Police began investigating on July 26 when they found 10-year-old Zion Staples deceased in a garbage can located in his mother's garage.

Shockingly, the boy's body had been there for an astonishing seven months, as revealed by investigators.

On Friday, an autopsy was performed, and preliminary results indicated that the death was "suspicious and not natural".

Zion's mother, Sushi M. Staples, aged 37, was arrested and charged with concealment of a death, obstruction of justice, and failure to report the death of a child.

She is currently held on a $500,000 bond, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for August 15.

A concerned neighbor, who preferred not to be identified, expressed surprise at how police came to search  the garage.

The neighbor recounted a personal experience of dealing with a dead raccoon and the unbearable smell, wondering how nobody noticed the odor for such a long period.

The police have not released further information, stating that the investigation is still ongoing.
