Grammy Winner Lizzo Sued by Dancers:Former Dancers Accuse Her of Harassment and Hostile Work Environment
Lizzo, the Grammy-winning singer, has found herself in legal trouble, as three of her former dancers have filed a lawsuit against her, alleging sexual harassment and the creation of a hostile work environment.
The civil lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, claims that Lizzo forced the dancers to interact with nude performers at a club in Amsterdam and body-shamed one of them before firing her.
The plaintiffs, Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez, have made various accusations, including sexual, religious, and racial harassment.
The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages and names Lizzo (real name Melissa Viviane Jefferson), her production company Big Grrrl Big Touring, Inc., and Shirlene Quigley, the captain of Lizzo's dance team.
According to the court filing, after a concert in Amsterdam, Lizzo and her crew attended a sexually themed show in the city's Red Light District.
At the club, Lizzo encouraged the dancers to touch the nude performers, leading to an uncomfortable situation.
The filing states that Lizzo showed little regard for her employees' bodily autonomy, even in the presence of other people.
Despite Lizzo's reputation for promoting body positivity, she is also accused of body-shaming one of the dancers, Arianna Davis, for her weight gain and subsequently firing her.
Davis was allegedly fired for recording a meeting where Lizzo gave feedback to the dancers about their performances.
Shirlene Quigley, who appeared as a judge on Lizzo's reality show "Lizzo's Watch Out for the Big Grrrls," is accused of pushing her Christian beliefs onto the dancers.
The lawsuit claims that Quigley referred to Davis as a "non-believer" and openly discussed her religious beliefs in the workplace.
Lizzo's representatives have not yet responded to inquiries about the lawsuit.
Earlier this year, Lizzo won a Grammy for Record of the Year for her hit song "About Damn Time," and her global tour supporting her fourth studio album, "Special," recently concluded.
