Exclusive Interview: Parents Claim Police Neglect in 15-year-old Lily Silva-Lopez,'s Tragic Murder

A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Colorado, where the parents of 15-year-old Lily Silva-Lopez, allegedly murdered by her 16-year-old ex-boyfriend, shared their anguish and frustration with NBC News in exclusive interviews. 

The parents believe that police should have arrested the ex-boyfriend after Lily filed a domestic violence complaint against him, just six days before her tragic death.

According to Lily's mother, Alma Lopez, her daughter had previously reported disturbing incidents, including her ex-boyfriend, Jovanni Sirio-Cardona, sticking a gun in her mouth and making threats to harm her family. 

On June 16, Sirio-Cardona forced his way into Lily's home and allegedly shot her multiple times.

Lily's parents feel that the police in Greeley, where they lived, could have done more to prevent the tragedy. 

They argue that if authorities had taken appropriate action after the domestic dispute, Lily might still be alive.

NBC News reviewed an arrest affidavit for Sirio-Cardona, which confirmed that police responded to the punching allegation on June 10, six days before the murder.

The affidavit also mentioned Lopez's claim that her daughter had informed the police about the gun incident on June 2.

However, the domestic violence complaint from June 10 has not been released due to the ongoing murder investigation, according to Sgt. Kyle Peltz of the Greeley Police Department. 

The department has also informed Lily's parents that they cannot access the report during the ongoing investigation.

Lily's parents revealed that they wanted to file a restraining order against Sirio-Cardona on June 10, but they lacked his date of birth. 

They believe Lily might have known it but chose not to escalate the situation further.

The accused, Jovanni Sirio-Cardona, has been charged with first- and second-degree murder as an adult, along with other related charges. 

His attorneys from the Greeley Public Defender's Office have not yet responded to requests for comment.

Lily was a vivacious young girl who loved dancing, shopping, and spending time with her friends. Her parents described her as a caring and loving individual who brought joy to those around her. 

Her tragic death has left her family devastated, and they seek answers and accountability from the authorities.

The case has raised concerns about the response of the police in cases of domestic violence and the importance of taking such complaints seriously to protect vulnerable individuals like Lily. 

The community mourns the loss of a young life and demands justice for Lily's untimely death.
