A man aged 30, who had been working as a legal assistant at his father's law firm, is facing allegations of fatally beating his stepmother using a baseball bat inside their family townhouse.
After assaulting her, he then fled from the location.
According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, the incident unfolded on Wednesday evening at a townhome on Stonegate Trail in Cresskill.
John Arthur Daniels Jr. is said to have committed the unfortunate act of murder.
The local police were alerted at around 6:46 p.m. via a 911 call, and upon arrival, they discovered the lifeless body of the victim, Irma Daniels, with apparent signs of being struck by a blunt object.
She was confirmed dead at the scene.
A report from The Daily Voice stated that the accused, who graduated from Bergen Catholic High School in 2011, was associated with the prominent New Jersey law firm Daniels & Daniels. The firm, which has a history dating back to 1930, specializes in civil litigation, corporate law, personal injury law, estate, and trust law.
John Daniels Sr., the accused's father, holds a strong position within the legal community and has been practicing law since 1992.
John Daniels Jr., who had pursued studies in Diplomacy and International Relations at Seton Hall and obtained an MBA from Boston College, was employed as a legal assistant at his father's firm for a span of two years, from 2018 to 2020, as stated on his LinkedIn profile.
In a tragic turn of events, John Daniels Jr. is now charged with serious offenses, including first-degree murder, hindering apprehension, providing false information, and weapons charges.
Irma Daniels, who moved from Moscow, Russia, to the United States over a decade ago, worked as a realtor specializing in luxury properties.
