A 20-year-old man from Chicagoland, with blood on his hands and clothes, confessed to the police that he fatally stabbed his father, declaring himself a murderer.
Isaac Thurston is currently held at Cook County Jail on a first-degree murder charge, with his bond set at $1 million, according to prosecutors.
Glenview police responded to a home shortly after 6:30 a.m. on Monday for a reported domestic-related stabbing incident.
Upon arrival, they found the victim, identified as 50-year-old Perron Thurston, suffering from a stab wound. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
As stated by prosecutors, a bond proffer revealed that Perron Thurston became upset when he learned that his son had smoked cannabis earlier in the morning.
He called his son's workplace, a coffee shop, to report that he couldn't come to work.
An argument unfolded in the kitchen, during which Isaac Thurston allegedly grabbed a knife from the counter and stabbed his father once in the left side of the torso.
After being stabbed, Perron Thurston called out to his wife, informing her that Isaac had stabbed him. The wife rushed to the kitchen and called 911.
The victim's second son also responded to the commotion, performing chest compressions on his father.
Isaac Thurston was found inside the home with blood on his hands and clothes when the officers arrived.
He told responding officers 'I don’t know why I did it and I’m a murderer,'" according to authorities.
The suspect reportedly described how he had stabbed his father and did not mention any physical contact with his father or any prior instances of physical violence or abuse.
Prosecutors noted that this is Isaac Thurston's first arrest.
Perron Thurston's obituary portrays him as a "loving father of Isaac" and his other son, a member of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity, an avid biker, and an active participant in various biking clubs and community rides.
Isaac Thurston's next court appearance is set for August 29.
