A 46-year-old police officer in KwaZulu-Natal has been arrested in connection with the alleged murder of his partner and the subsequent abandonment of her body by the roadside.
The victim, Busisiwe Ngubo, aged 35, was discovered deceased about a kilometer away from her residence in the Ehlanzeni area of Ixopo on a Monday.
According to information from Colonel Robert Netshiunda, the police spokesperson, the officer was apprehended last Friday and is facing charges of murder.
Netshiunda revealed that the officer is scheduled to appear before the Ixopo Magistrate's Court next Monday.
Tragically, Ngubo had been expecting twins, and this unfortunate incident transpired just a day before her anticipated delivery.
However, a postmortem conducted on Saturday revealed that she was actually carrying triplets, not twins as she had believed.
Nonhlanhla Khoza, the Social Development MEC, expressed deep concern for the loss of not just Ngubo but also her unborn triplets.
Khoza emphasized the necessity of a thorough and transparent investigation into the matter, calling for law enforcement agencies to allocate additional resources to uncover the truth.
Mandla Ngcobo, a family spokesperson and Ngubo's cousin, shared the family's shock at discovering she was carrying triplets.
Ngcobo lamented that despite the initial joy over the anticipation of two new family members, the tragedy of losing all three unborn babies is hearbreaking.
The community's response to the incident was significant, with a sizable group marching to the police station to demand the arrest of Ngubo's boyfriend, who is a police officer himself, on murder charges.
Ngubo and the officer had been in a relationship for over four years, and their last communication indicated she was going to visit him the day before she was found deceased.
The family disclosed that they were unfamiliar with the suspect, despite his reputation within the community.
They expressed their deep sorrow over Ngubo's untimely passing and emphasized that their community's sense of security is pivotal.
Ngubo's body was discovered by neighbors on their way home from work.
