Second Florida Man, Phillip Stapleton Arrested in Connection with Young Mother's Murder

A new development has emerged in the case of the tragic murder of a young mother of two in Florida.

Authorities have announced the arrest of Phillip Stapleton, aged 32. He stands accused of being involved in the murder of Ashley Voss, 22, who was shot in the back while in her own car.

The incident occurred in late July, and Stapleton faces charges of principal to murder in the first degree and conspiracy to commit murder in the first degree.

Arrest and Investigation

Stapleton's arrest came after diligent investigative efforts by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.

The arrest follows the previous arrest of Aurelio Diaz, Jr., 32, who was charged with premeditated murder in the first degree for his alleged role in the shooting.

In the court documents, details emerged about the victim's conversation with Stapleton before her death.

Voss had confided in Stapleton, the father of her younger child, about her intention to spend time in her car after work because she found it comfortable.

But Stapleton's statements regarding the incident have been inconsistent. He initially claimed that Diaz shot Voss after being instructed to carry out only a "prank".

However, text messages exchanged between Stapleton and the victim clearly indicate that he was fully aware of her presence in the car at the time of the shooting.

The affidavit also states that law enforcement recorded a "controlled phone call" between Stapleton and Diaz, during which Diaz allegedly confessed, saying to Stapleton, "I did it just like I told you, walked up to the back window, and boom."

Family's Reaction

Voss's family has expressed doubt about Stapleton's claims of innocence.

The victim's grandmother, Rhonda Voss, stated that there seemed to be no motive for the murder and that the claims of a prank do not align with the tragic outcome.

The family is left grappling with the loss of a loved one and taking care of Voss's two young children.

Legal Proceedings

Stapleton's arrest and subsequent legal proceedings shed light on the ongoing investigation into the case.

The victim's family is seeking justice and answers surrounding the tragic incident.

Both Diaz and Stapleton are facing charges related to the murder, with Stapleton's involvement still under serious investigation.
