Six Former Mississippi Enforcement Officers Admit To Unlawfully Arresting Two Black Men, And Subjecting Them To Racial Slurs And Physical Abuse.

Six former law enforcement officers in Mississippi are facing a series of federal charges as two separate incidents involving the torture and physical abuse of Rankin County residents have come to light.

The allegations include civil rights conspiracy, deprivation of rights under the color of law, firearm discharge during a violent crime, obstruction of justice conspiracy, and obstruction of justice.

During court proceedings, the six defendants—Chief Investigator Brett McAlpin, Narcotics Investigator Christian Dedmon, Lieutenant Jeffrey Middleton, Deputy Hunter Elward, Deputy Daniel Opdyke from the Rankin County Sheriff's Office, and Narcotics Investigator Joshua Hartfield from the Richland Police Department—pleaded guilty to the charges against them.

The defendants admitted to entering a home without a warrant, unlawfully arresting two Black men, and subjecting them to racial slurs, physical violence, and humiliation.

The victims were repeatedly tased, beaten, and assaulted, and Dedmon even fired his gun to intimidate them.

Shockingly, one of the victims had a gun forced into his mouth and was shot, resulting in severe injuries.

Despite the injuries inflicted, the defendants did not provide medical help but instead tried to cover up their actions by planting evidence, destroying surveillance, and pressuring witnesses to adhere to a false narrative.

The defendants' guilty pleas highlight the severity of their actions, which grossly violated the trust placed in them as law enforcement officers.

The incident underscores the importance of holding officers accountable and maintaining public trust.

The accused also face state charges in connection with the same incident.

Both federal and state authorities have been investigating this case to ensure justice is served.
