Two sisters have been arrested after a tragic incident in Tshwane, South Africa, where five children died in a shack fire while their mothers were at a tavern.
The incident occurred in the Itireleng informal settlement near Laudium. The fire destroyed at least six shacks and claimed the lives of the children, including a one-year-old girl.
The sisters allegedly left the children alone in the shack overnight while they went out to drink.
Firefighters arrived at the scene and started firefighting operations, but unfortunately, the children's remains were discovered in the ruins of the shacks after the fire was extinguished.
The sisters were taken into police custody for questioning, and investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
This tragic event highlights the importance of ensuring that children are always under the care of responsible adults in a safe environment.
