Closure Looms: Husband Detained in Magistrate Thamae's Tragic Death

In South Africa, police have apprehended the husband of Regional Court Magistrate Mamello Thamae, aged 40, following the discovery of her lifeless body in the trunk of their car in Lesotho.

The incident unfolded on Friday, September 22, 2023, when authorities initiated a manhunt after Thamae and her husband, Lehlohonolo Maketoane, were reported missing.

At that time, Captain Loraine Earle, the SAPS spokesperson, disclosed that the couple was last seen in Heilbron, located in the Free State.

According to the police's account, "Magistrate Thamae arrived at her home in Heilbron. At around 4 am on Thursday, the car drove off from the family home. A cellphone and her husband's clothing were also missing. Her clothes and cellphone were still at home."

Earle further noted the strong suspicion that the vehicle may have crossed into Lesotho through the Ficksburg Port of Entry.

On Saturday, September 23, it was confirmed that the couple's vehicle had been located at a guest house in Mokhotlong, Lesotho.

The Lesotho Mounted Police Service questioned the husband, who subsequently directed them to his wife's lifeless body in the car's trunk.

The husband has been detained in Lesotho, pending extradition back to South Africa, where he will potentially face charges of kidnapping and murder.

Authorities are currently in the process of arranging for the suspect's return to Heilbron, set to take place next week.

Meanwhile in another news, a 16-year-old, who carried out a shooting at a school in the Dallas area earlier this year resulting in the death of one student and injury to another, has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for capital murder and attempted capital murder, according to prosecutors.
