Cold Case Cracked: Arrests Bring Hope in 21-Year Mystery of Missing Teenager

In a significant development, a man and a woman have been apprehended in connection with the 21-year-old cold case of Robert Williams, a teenager who vanished while on his way to a party in Resolven, Neath, back in 2002. Robert was just 15 years old when he disappeared, and the recent arrests have raised hopes of resolving the long-standing mystery.

The arrests were made by South Wales police, who took a 59-year-old woman and a 35-year-old man into custody for further inquiries.

Detective Inspector David Butt, leading the investigation, stated that Robert's mother, Cheryl, has been informed about the developments, and the focus remains on providing support to Robert's family during this emotionally challenging time. The privacy of the family is being respected as the investigation unfolds.

This significant breakthrough came after South Wales police renewed their appeal for information on Robert's disappearance, coinciding with what would have been his 37th birthday. Cheryl expressed her desire to find closure, stating, "I know that Robert is never coming home. I just want his body back so I can bury him. He deserves that. I don't want him out there on his own, and we need closure as a family. Someone out there knows what happened to him."

Detective Inspector Dai Butt emphasized the importance of community involvement, particularly from Aberdulais, where Robert attended a house party shortly before his disappearance.

He urged anyone who might have information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to come forward. Detective Butt acknowledged that recalling details from 21 years ago might be challenging, but emphasized that any information could prove vital to the investigation and provide the much-needed closure for Robert's family.

Robert had been en route to a house party in Tair Felin, Aberdulais, when he went missing. Despite extensive searches and numerous leads over the years, the police were unable to locate him, leaving his family in agony.

In a poignant tribute, Robert's mother remembered the last time she saw her son, describing him as a cheerful character who loved sports. She recalled the ordinary morning he left for the last time, saying, "The morning Robert went missing was just like any other morning. He said, 'I am off out mam, see you later,' and he looked so happy going around the corner. Just every day I think about that because that is the last time I have ever seen him."

Detectives continue to seek information that may assist their inquiries, encouraging anyone with knowledge to come forward. Information can be provided via the provided link, and anonymous tips can be shared with Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via their website.
