A man has been sentenced to five-and-a-half years in prison for a violent incident that led to the death of another man in Alperton.
Abdelaziz Maaroufi, aged 26 (pictured above), residing at Woodside End, Alperton, received his sentence for the manslaughter of Peter Marecheau. This judgment was issued at Croydon Crown Court on Tuesday, September 26.
Maaroufi was found guilty of manslaughter in the case of Peter Marecheau after a trial at Harrow Crown Court on Wednesday, July 12.
Detective Chief Inspector Linda Bradley from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command headed the investigation and expressed, "This sentencing marks the conclusion of a tragic case. Maaroufi has never provided an explanation for his involvement in this incident and the extreme violence he resorted to."
She continued, "While Peter's family may not have received all the answers they hoped for, I hope they can find some comfort in the fact that Maaroufi has been convicted and incarcerated for his actions."
The conviction stems from a murder investigation initiated after 67-year-old Peter, known as Frankie to family and friends, succumbed to injuries sustained during a dispute about parking.
Peter Marecheau, The victim
On Friday, September 9, 2022, at 16:20 hours, London Ambulance Service (LAS) notified the police that they had transported an injured man from Abbey Industrial Estate in Alperton to the hospital. Upon arriving at the industrial estate, officers established a crime scene.
They also visited the hospital where Peter was being treated for a life-threatening head injury. Tragically, he passed away in the hospital on Monday, September 12.
Detectives ascertained that the victim worked at an industrial unit on the estate and had parked his car outside a nearby unit where the defendant, Maaroufi, was employed.
An unwritten rule on the estate was that if a car needed to be moved, someone would honk their horn, and the vehicle would be relocated. However, on this particular day, the owner of the unit sounded his horn three times before Peter emerged from his workshop.
An argument ensued between Peter and the unit owner. Maaroufi decided to involve himself in the argument and pushed Peter four times. Despite attempts by others to de-escalate the situation and Peter retreating, Maaroufi punched Peter once in the face, causing him to fall backward, resulting in a significant head injury.
Following Peter's demise, a post-mortem examination determined that he had died due to blunt force head injury.
CCTV footage of the incident captured Maaroufi arguing with Peter before delivering the fatal punch.
Maaroufi was arrested on suspicion of murder on Monday, September 12.
He admitted his involvement in the incident but claimed it was an act of self-defense. Nevertheless, he was charged with murder and ultimately convicted of manslaughter during the trial.
