In Florida, the friends and family of two women, tragically killed by Aaron Glee, have expressed their desire for the death penalty, even though it's not a legal option in this case.
Aaron Glee, 52, reached a plea agreement in June, admitting to the kidnapping and murder of Victoria "Vicki" Sims, 75, a well-known local volunteer and retired state worker, and Oluwatoyin Salau, 19, a Black Lives Matter protester and community college student.
In exchange for his admission, the death penalty was dropped.
On Friday, Leon Circuit Judge Frank Allman sentenced Glee to two consecutive life sentences for two counts of first-degree murder, as well as a life sentence for kidnapping, 15 years for sexual battery, and an additional five years for felony battery.
However, friends and family of the victims expressed their dissatisfaction with the plea deal, passionately advocating for the death penalty. They spoke of their deep loss and the profound impact of these murders on their lives.
Sims' cell phone was traced back to Glee's residence, where her body was found. Salau's body was discovered in the woods behind the residence.
Glee initially fled the scene but was arrested in West Palm Beach. While in the hospital, he confessed to the murders and provided further details during interviews with investigators.
Glee recounted meeting Salau at a bus stop, where she disclosed a recent sexual assault. He invited her to his home, but his actions took a sinister turn, leading to her rape and captivity.
Eventually, Glee admitted to killing Salau to avoid returning to prison. He also confessed to the murder of Sims, whom he kidnapped and killed after leaving Salau's body in the room.
Friends and family shared emotional victim impact statements, highlighting the incredible qualities of the victims and the impact they could have had on the world if their lives hadn't been tragically cut short.
Meanwhile in California, a 27-year-old woman found herself behind bars after a tragic incident involving the fatal stabbing of 28-year-old mother of three, Shawna Weems. See detailed story here.
