The young girl, aged 15, who lost her life in a tragic stabbing incident on her way to school, has been identified as Elianne Andam. The heartbreaking incident occurred at 8:30 a.m. on September 27 while she was riding the number 60 bus to school in Croydon, England. Elianne knew her attacker, a 17-year-old boy, who was apprehended just over an hour after the assault.
Elianne's aunt, Marian, expressed the family's profound grief over this devastating loss. She shared, "This is a tragedy that hasn't fully registered for my sister yet. Elianne aspired to become a lawyer and attended a private school with a promising future. My sister had invested in her education. She was a delightful girl, passionate about gymnastics and taking care of her hair. We are all shattered by this. We are a close-knit family, and we stand together to support my sister."
Marian continued, "We cannot fathom the heartbreak of the past 24 hours. She left for school and never returned." Elianne was a student at the Old Palace of John Whitgift School, a private girls' school in Croydon. Tragically, she was less than a mile away from the school when the incident occurred.
The school released a statement, expressing their deep shock and sorrow at the loss of their beloved student and friend. They acknowledged that it would take time for their school community to come to terms with this distressing news and pledged to provide support to their students during this challenging period. The school also extended their heartfelt condolences to Elianne's family, recognizing the unimaginable pain they must be enduring.
Despite the valiant efforts of a bus driver and bystanders to save Elianne's life, she sadly passed away at the scene shortly after the attack. Witnesses reported that a dispute erupted on the bus when the boy attempted to give a bouquet of flowers to his former girlfriend.
In another news, authorities in North Carolina have finally identified the woman whose remains were discovered 33 years ago beside a highway. See detailed story here.
