Mother Convicted for Misappropriating Deceased Son's Social Security Funds on Luxury and Retail Purchases

    In a shocking and heart-wrenching case, a woman from New York has admitted to the neglectful death of her son, leading to a two-year federal prison sentence for misusing his Social Security benefits, even a year after his tragic passing.

This tragic story revolves around Lisa Marie Waldron, a 44-year-old New York woman. 

    She was charged with second-degree manslaughter and first-degree assault in connection with the death of her son, Jordan Brooks, a 17-year-old who suffered from cerebral palsy. 

    The neglect he endured is nothing short of horrifying, as bed sores covered his body, metal implants protruded from his skin, and he often sat in soiled diapers for days on end.

    What's even more distressing is the significant weight loss Jordan experienced in just eight months, going from 114 pounds to a mere 55 pounds before his passing. It's a grim reminder of the pain he endured during his final days.

    Perhaps the most unsettling aspect of this case is that Lisa Waldron continued to collect and misuse her son's Social Security benefits even after his death. 

    Rather than using the funds for his well-being, she made extraneous and unlawful purchases at places like Victoria's Secret and Rent-A-Center. After Jordan's passing, the misappropriation continued with fast food purchases and even a trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

    Justice was finally served when the Social Security Administration discovered the theft in April 2022, nearly a year after Jordan's tragic demise. 

Lisa Waldron pleaded guilty to her charges, and her sentencing was scheduled for September 28th.

    While U.S. prosecutors expected her federal sentence to run concurrently with the state one, the severity of her actions led them to seek a longer sentence. Despite not receiving the full extension they sought, Lisa Waldron was sentenced to two years in federal prison, along with a restitution order of $13,292.76.

    Her defense attorney, Joseph G. Rodak, argued that Lisa was overwhelmed after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, which disrupted the support she received for caring for Jordan. 

    He believes that she cared deeply for her son and struggled to manage his special needs without adequate assistance.

    In contrast, Anthony Waldron, the boy's stepfather, has chosen to go to trial, with his attorney, Salvatore Lanza, emphasizing that Lisa never granted him authority over Jordan due to her not being his biological father, legal guardian, or adoptive parent.
