Las Vegas Rapper, Kenjuan McDaniel Faces Murder Charge After Confessing About The Murder in His Music

A rapper from Nevada found himself arrested on a murder charge, with Las Vegas police citing his song lyrics as a confession to the crime. 

Kenjuan McDaniel was taken into custody on August 29, facing a charge of open murder with a deadly weapon, as reported in a news release from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. 

Court records show that his bail was set at $1 million with electronic monitoring on Thursday.

CNN attempted to contact McDaniel’s attorney for a response but received no reply.

McDaniel had previously drawn attention as a person of interest in the case of Randall Wallace's death on September 18, 2021. 

This suspicion was fueled in part by his connection to a vehicle that matched the description of one used during the crime, according to details from a redacted arrest warrant obtained through CNN affiliate KVVU.

In July, a detective came across a music video posted by McDaniel on YouTube, leading to a review of the lyrics and video by detectives.

The warrant revealed, "Detectives noted the music video bore a sufficient level of similarity to the details of the murder. This includes the fact that Kenjuan confessed to the murder in his lyrics... Details provided by Kenjuan in his music video were not released to the public and would not be common knowledge."

One specific lyric mentioned in the warrant, "Parked the car, double back on feet, the smartest way to slide, drove in, double lock yo man, make sure you get yo bod’," was highlighted as containing undisclosed details of the murder. 

Additionally, it was noted that McDaniel's actions in the video reenacted elements of the killing consistent with evidence found at the crime scene.

The warrant emphasized that the investigation had gathered facts independently from the music video and that the video served to corroborate the investigation's findings.

McDaniel's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Thursday.
