Medical Doctor Arrested for Alleged Organ Harvesting in Plateau State, Nigeria

The Plateau State Police command has apprehended a medical doctor over allegations of organ harvesting from a female patient in his Jos-based hospital.

According to reports from Leadership, the arrest came following a complaint lodged with the police by the victim's husband, Alhaji Kamal. The husband claimed that the doctor had removed one of his wife's kidneys, causing her severe pain over the past five years.

The incident dates back to 2018 when the victim, Kehinde, complained of stomach pain and was taken to the doctor's clinic in the Nasarawa Gwong area of Jos North local government area. The doctor diagnosed her with a ruptured appendicitis and recommended immediate surgery, charging N140,000 (about $150) for the procedure.

The husband explained, "The day the doctor conducted the operation, he started the operation from 12 pm till 8 pm, and for the past five years, my wife kept complaining of severe stomach pains.

I continued to take her to the same hospital because I did not want to change the doctor that started the treatment.

As she continued to have the pains, I decided to go to the Jos University Teaching Hospital, JUTH a few days ago, where we discovered that one of my wife’s kidneys was removed."

The police spokesperson, DSP Alfred Alabo, confirmed the doctor's arrest and stated that he is in custody while investigations are ongoing to establish his culpability, with the intention of filing charges against him.
