Pennsylvania Nurse Convicted of First-Degree Murder in Girlfriend's Killing

A Pennsylvania nurse has been convicted of first-degree murder in the brutal killing of his nurse girlfriend, Catherine "Cat" Hartman, during an early morning argument two summers ago.

William Frederic Hudson, 52, was found guilty by a York County jury for the murder that occurred at their residence in Lewisberry, Fairview Township, around 2 a.m. on June 25, 2021.

Hudson survived a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chin, with the bullet passing through his forehead.

After shooting himself, he texted his father Curtis Hudson, informing him of Hartman's death. Hudson's father promptly called for emergency assistance and later turned his son in to the authorities. The crime scene was discovered covered in blood.

Initially, Hudson attempted to portray the incident as if he had stumbled upon Hartman dead in the dining room. However, under police questioning, he admitted, "I probably did it." He also claimed that Hartman had broken a kitchen chair over him and was already deceased when he woke up.

Jurors swiftly reached a verdict, finding Hudson guilty of first-degree murder after a week-long trial that concluded on September 4. The York County District Attorney's Office praised the Fairview Township Police Department and prosecutors for their exceptional work on the case.

Sentencing is scheduled for October 12 at 1:30 p.m.

Hartman, a traveling nurse, was survived by three siblings, multiple nieces and nephews, and several great nieces and nephews. She had a background in horticulture and deeply cared for all living things.

In another news, authorities have cracked a 44-year-old Boston cold case thanks to an unexpected confession from an Oregon man. John Michael Irmer, 68, made a startling admission when he walked into a Portland FBI office in August. He confessed to the 1979 murder and rape of 24-year-old Susan Marcia Rose.
