A 27-year-old man is in custody after allegedly fatally stabbing his 19-year-old girlfriend in Thohoyandou, Limpopo, South Africa.
The suspect was apprehended on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, in the Waterberg District at Mokopane, Mahwelereng Zone 17, Polokwane, following a tip-off to the Thohoyandou Task Team about his whereabouts in the area.
According to reports, on Sunday, September 3, 2023, at around 10:40 PM, the police received a distress call about a young woman who had been stabbed in Ha-Magidi village. They immediately rushed to the scene.
Upon their arrival, the police found emergency medical services attending to a 19-year-old victim who tragically succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
The deceased was identified as Ridodzula Mudzanani from Mbaleni village.
Initial investigations suggested that she was walking when she encountered her boyfriend. Within minutes, community members heard her cries for help as she had allegedly been stabbed with a sharp object by the suspect, who then fled on foot.
The couple had two children, and the motive behind the incident remains unknown.
About a week after the initial incident, a male individual was found deceased, and the wanted suspect's identification documents were discovered near the body, leading to initial confusion.
However, subsequent investigation revealed that the deceased had his own ID in his pockets, confirming he was not the suspect.
After extensive efforts, the police successfully tracked down and arrested the suspect in Mahwelereng.
Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe assured the public that criminals would be pursued relentlessly by the law, no matter how long it takes or how far they flee.
They will face prosecution for the crimes they commit in society.
The suspect is expected to appear in Thohoyandou Magistrate Court soon, where he will face charges of murder.
