Tragic Shooting of 13-Year-Old: Video Evidence Unveils Heartbreaking Story

A recently released body camera video reveals the disturbing events leading up to the tragic death of 13-year-old Amber Archuleta. She was allegedly shot by her 14-year-old friend, Porfirio Brown, at a residence in Questa, New Mexico, on July 28.

The shooting marked a grim moment in New Mexico's history, as it was the second time parents of an alleged young gunman faced arrest after their child was accused of a crime. In this case, 39-year-old William Brown was charged because he allegedly left his guns unsecured in his home, allowing his son easy access to them.

The body camera footage captures police officers questioning witnesses shortly after the incident was reported. A 14-year-old girl recounted the chilling sequence of events, explaining that they were all hanging out and listening to music when Porfirio Brown pulled out a handgun, pointed it at Amber, and fired.

Amber fell to the ground, bleeding.

After the shooting, Porfirio Brown moved Amber's body outside of the home. Amber's brother revealed that Porfirio Brown had threatened to kill himself and urged them to make up a story about a drive-by shooting.

Investigators initially followed Porfirio Brown's claims, searching for evidence along the road. However, as they spoke to William Brown, they discovered inconsistencies in the story. It became clear that the initial account was not accurate.

Porfirio Brown was eventually taken into police custody, and a scuffle between him and law enforcement was captured on video. He faced charges of first-degree murder, tampering with evidence, and assault on a police officer. Later, the top charge was reduced to second-degree murder.

After his arrest, Porfirio Brown was placed in a juvenile detention center but has since been released to live with his grandparents.

He is undergoing homeschooling and is required to wear a GPS monitor while refraining from contact with his father. Prosecutors are seeking "youthful offender" status for Porfirio Brown, which would involve a special sentencing hearing if he is convicted.

William Brown, who was charged with negligent firearm accessibility resulting in death, has been released from the Taos County Jail, and both father and son are awaiting trial.

In another news, a 36-year-old mother from Ohio has been found guilty of killing her 11-year-old son in a Mississippi hotel bathroom three years ago. The woman, Latina Marie Oates, claimed she believed her son was a demon at the time of the horrific incident. See detailed story here
