An incident in Florida recently made headlines as an ex-husband's attempt to get his ex-wife's new partner into legal trouble backfired. As per authorities, Rishil Bisnath, 44, now faces charges for falsely reporting a non-existent crime and resisting an officer during an encounter related to a child custody dispute.
This unusual incident took place on a Tuesday, according to a probable cause affidavit obtained by Law&Crime. On that day, Bisnath contacted the sheriff's office to report a threat against him. Upon their arrival, he presented messages he claimed were sent from his phone to his iPad, including one that threatened his children. However, the situation quickly unraveled as it became evident that Bisnath had fabricated the threatening messages in an attempt to involve law enforcement in a visit to his ex-wife's residence.
Following this confession, deputies moved to arrest Bisnath. He resisted their attempts, exclaiming, "You can't take me to jail." Ultimately, he was apprehended, detained overnight, and released the next day, with an arraignment scheduled for November 30.
This isn't the first time Bisnath has sought law enforcement's assistance and found himself in trouble. In a separate case in June, he faced charges for misusing the 911 system. During that incident, he contacted law enforcement to seek help with a child custody matter, despite having been warned multiple times not to call 911 for non-emergencies.
Notably, the earlier 911 misuse case was resolved with a pre-trial diversion agreement in which Bisnath paid a $150 fine to cover the prosecution costs.
