A 31-year-old woman was taken into custody on Thursday for her alleged assault on a 13-year-old girl at a McDonald's in Los Angeles, a disturbing incident captured in a widely circulated video.
The suspect, Ariana Lauifi, faces child abuse felony charges related to the September 6 attack in the Harbor City neighborhood, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Investigators were able to identify the suspect with the assistance of tips from the public, following significant interest in the video.
Cell phone footage of the incident shows a woman violently punching and kicking 13-year-old Kassidy Jones multiple times, pulling her hair, and forcing her to the restaurant floor while onlookers do not intervene.
Jones explained that she and her friends had stopped at the restaurant to use the restroom while walking home from school.
Jones recounted that an unknown woman suddenly attacked her without any provocation, making aggressive remarks such as, "What the heck are you looking at? I fight kids. I’ll fight you!" This unprovoked attack left Jones bruised and traumatized, causing her sleepless nights and reluctance to attend school due to questions and teasing from her peers.
Kassidy's mother, Angelina Gray, expressed her concern, noting her daughter's suffering and anxiety caused by the incident. A family spokesperson expressed gratitude for the arrest and emphasized Kassidy's ongoing therapy and the hope that justice would be served.
Tawnie Blade, the store owner and operator of the McDonald's, expressed shock over the violent attack and extended sympathy to Kassidy and her family. The fast-food chain said that employees had called the police when the altercation began and that they were cooperating with the local authorities in their investigation.
