Community activists came together on Tuesday to support an 11-year-old girl, Trinity Washington, who endured a brutal attack in Chicago. Her parents are determined to bring attention to their child's ordeal.
Trinity, who now sports a bandage on her nose, is slowly recovering from the traumatic incident. Over the Mexican Independence Day weekend, two women allegedly assaulted Trinity near her apartment in North Lawndale, using a liquor bottle to strike her face.
The assault left her with multiple injuries and on the brink of losing consciousness.
However, the family's ordeal didn't end with the attack. They claim to have faced threats for reporting the incident, including a terrifying encounter where someone brandished a gun at them. Fearful for their safety, they no longer feel safe returning home, and their calls for police assistance went unanswered for too long.
Wanda Porter, Trinity's mother, expressed how traumatic the experience has been for their family, with Trinity missing school due to her injuries.
Despite her physical wounds, Trinity maintains a resilient spirit. She acknowledged the duality of the world, where there is goodness but also cruelty. Trinity's hope is for prayers to bring some ease to their challenging life.
The recently elected Chicago Police District Council members have categorized this incident as a hate crime against a minor. They are determined to hold the police accountable and demand improved response times to violent crimes.
In another development, a 21-year-old college student from New York found herself detained in Dubai following an incident at the airport where she was accused of "assaulting and insulting" airport officials. See detailed story here.
