Dark Past Unveiled: Prisoner's Violent History Surfaces After Attack on Murder Convict

The individual self-identifying as a "Satanist" who allegedly assaulted the murderer of Kristin Smart with such force that he required hospitalization had a history of taking two lives prior to this incident: first, that of his girlfriend, and later, that of a convicted serial killer.

Paul Flores, currently serving a 25-to-life sentence for the 1996 murder of 19-year-old Kristin Denise Smart, encountered Jason Budrow at Pleasant Valley State Prison in Coalinga, California.

On August 23, 2023, Flores was found on the ground between the recreational yard and the medical clinic, requiring immediate medical attention and subsequent transportation to an outside hospital.

Budrow was discovered nearby with a manufactured weapon and surrendered without causing harm to anyone else.

Budrow had previously attacked his cellmate Roger Reece Kibbe, the notorious "I-5 Strangler," in 2021 at Mule Creek State Prison. The incident led to Kibbe's death, as recounted by prison staff who found Budrow standing in his cell and Kibbe lying unresponsive on the floor.

Budrow, identified as a self-proclaimed "Satanist" with a 666 tattoo above his right eye, claimed in a letter to The San Jose Mercury News that he targeted Kibbe as part of a mission to avenge Kibbe's victims, allegedly carving a pentagram into the victim's body.

These actions resulted in another life sentence for Budrow, who was already serving time for the murder of his girlfriend, Margret Dalton, and the sexual assault of a teenager in separate incidents.
