Deadly Shooting Erupts During Argument Between Wendy's Employees

In a tragic incident on a Friday afternoon, an altercation between two Wendy's employees in north Charlotte turned into a fatal shooting, as reported by the police.

The shooting occurred around 5:30 p.m. at a strip mall located on West W.T. Harris Boulevard near West Sugar Creek Road. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department had cordoned off the entrance to the Wendy's restaurant at that location with crime scene tape. According to the police, the dispute between the employees started inside the fast-food restaurant.

Maj. Ryan Jackson of CMPD explained, "Around 5:30 p.m. this evening, there was an argument between two employees, which escalated into a more violent altercation." The situation took a tragic turn when one of the employees opened fire on the other once they were outside.

"One of them brandished a firearm and shot the other person," Jackson stated. The shooting victim sustained life-threatening injuries and was rushed to a hospital, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries.

The alleged gunman, who is also an employee, has been apprehended and is currently in police custody. Notably, the victim did not possess a firearm, according to the authorities.

The incident left both employees and customers at the strip mall deeply shocked by the sudden act of violence. Elizabeth Martinez and Tomas Adame, who work at a gym in the area, expressed their concerns about the incident affecting the community's sense of safety.

"Our gym members were arriving, and they were a little frightened when they saw the police presence outside of Wendy's, and we had no idea what was happening," Martinez shared. "It's concerning for the community," added Tomas Adame. "You always want to feel safe wherever you go, so yeah, it's quite concerning."
