Fatal Shooting By Police Officer During Search Warrant Execution in Northern Michigan, Under Investigation
A tragic incident unfolded as a police officer fatally shot an armed woman in northern Michigan while carrying out a search warrant, according to authorities.
The Northern Michigan Mutual Aid Task Force Emergency Response Team had been in the process of executing a search warrant, seeking the arrest of a 41-year-old woman from Lake City, located in Norwich Township.
Shortly before 2 p.m., members of the team were met with a confrontation by the woman, as reported by the Michigan State Police in a news release.
Details such as the woman's identity, the type of weapon she possessed, and the nature of the investigation remained undisclosed.
Following the incident, Missaukee County Sheriff Wil Yancer and Grand Traverse County Sheriff Mike Shea requested that the state police conduct an investigation into the shooting. The police officer who discharged their weapon has been put on administrative leave, pending the conclusion of the investigation.
The officer's name has not been revealed.
Upon completion, the investigation findings will be forwarded to prosecutors for review, according to the police. Norwich Township is situated approximately 170 miles northwest of Detroit.
