In a chilling incident, Tommy Powell confessed to a gruesome crime when first responders arrived at his residence in search of his missing girlfriend.
He brazenly stated, "I shot her."
Powell, a 55-year-old man, shockingly revealed that he had been living with the lifeless body for several days, all while having taken out an insurance policy in her name.
August saw Powell's conviction for the murder of 32-year-old Amberly Harris, and he was subsequently sentenced to life imprisonment for this heinous act. Law&Crime Network has obtained recently released body camera footage of Powell's arrest on December 15, 2022, which captures his unflinching admission of guilt.
As the detectives knocked on Powell's door in Independence, Kentucky, one of them asked, "Is Amberly here?" Powell's chilling reply was, "No. She passed away. I shot her."
The body camera footage shows two officers rushing into the apartment, discovering Harris's lifeless body in a back room. Powell later informed first responders that he had killed his girlfriend three days prior during a heated argument, using a "20-gauge" shotgun.
The murder weapon was subsequently found inside the home.
This horrifying ordeal began with a well-being check after Harris's employer reported her absence for multiple days. Investigators determined that her cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head.
Shockingly, a month prior to her murder, Powell had taken out an insurance policy in her name from Eagle Financial Services, specifically an accidental death and dismemberment policy valued at $20,000, with Powell listed as the beneficiary.
