An Illinois man reportedly turned up at a family member's house covered in blood after allegedly brutally assaulting another family member in Lake County on Saturday morning, according to the police.
Sanjuan Reyes, a 36-year-old resident of Round Lake Beach, is facing charges of aggravated domestic battery, aggravated battery, two counts of domestic battery, assaulting a police animal, and resisting arrest.
On that early Saturday morning, Reyes, visibly covered in blood and under the influence, is said to have driven to a relative's home in Joliet. Shortly after arriving, he left the Joliet residence, leaving the family concerned that he might have harmed another family member with whom he lives in Round Lake Beach.
The family promptly contacted Joliet police, who in turn informed the Round Lake Beach police. Responding to the call, police officers went to Reyes' residence but found no one there.
Acting on a tip that Reyes might be in the vicinity of Route 83 and Rollins Road, they proceeded to that area and located Reyes' vehicle in a parking lot. Inside the vehicle, a significant amount of blood was allegedly discovered.
Upon further investigation, the police determined that Reyes had assaulted the family member he resides with in Waukegan before driving to the home of another family member in Joliet.
The victim, a 39-year-old woman, suffered several injuries during the assault, including broken bones. She was admitted to a local hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, Lake County Sheriff's K9 Dax was deployed to the area where Reyes' vehicle was found and conducted a search. K9 Dax successfully located Reyes hiding in a dense thicket in the vicinity. Reyes reportedly refused to surrender and, during the apprehension, struck K9 Dax.
Thankfully, the police dog was uninjured.
Reyes was subsequently taken into custody and charged accordingly. Following standard protocol, K9 Dax was examined by a veterinarian to ensure his well-being.
Reyes appeared in court on Sunday, where a Lake County Judge ordered him to be held for a detention hearing.
