Over the weekend, a man from Beach Park got himself in trouble when he allegedly brought an AR-15 loaded with "penetrator rounds" to a Halloween party in Antioch. Around 10 p.m., the Antioch police received a noise complaint about a party happening on Ida Avenue, where the music was cranked up. When the officers arrived at the scene, they spotted a massive crowd of over 300 people.
Realizing they needed some extra help, the Antioch police called for backup to disperse the partygoers, a process that took more than four hours to complete. In the end, they managed to take one person into custody.
This person turned out to be Tabiest Hearton, a 23-year-old with a prior weapons-related conviction who was currently on probation. He was found in possession of an assault weapon loaded with "penetrator rounds," which can penetrate hard targets. The gun was discovered on the floorboard of his vehicle with the safety disengaged, as reported by the police.
Hearton is now facing some serious legal trouble with four felony charges:
1. Three counts of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon
2. One count of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon
If he's convicted on all charges, he could be looking at up to 12 years behind bars. He made an appearance in court on Sunday and was ordered to be held without bond.
According to the police, the same group of individuals who threw this party has been causing disturbances in other communities in Lake County. It's worth noting that the Antioch party was organized by outsiders, not locals. Antioch's police department has hinted that more charges might be on the horizon.
Police Chief Geoffery Guttschow had a strong message for property owners hosting such lawless and dangerous events in their community: "Any property owner in our community that allows these types of lawless and dangerous events to take place will be subject to the full resources of our department and legal team."
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Antioch police at 847-270-9111 or email [email protected].
