A man accused of carrying out over 100 thefts in Home Depot stores across the United States has been apprehended.
The Ohio Township Police Department made the announcement on Thursday through a Facebook post, disclosing that Antonio Bryant, a Georgia native, had been arrested for causing substantial losses, amounting to tens of thousands of dollars, to the home improvement retailer.
Bryant is alleged to have committed thefts in Home Depot outlets in various states, including Texas and Ohio. Law enforcement learned of his whereabouts when Ohio Township Police Officer Bissiere spotted his vehicle. Following this lead, Bissiere established surveillance and managed to capture Bryant in the act of committing his most recent theft.
The department stated that the information obtained from Bryant's arrest would be shared with law enforcement agencies across the country to consider additional charges.
Bryant reportedly posted bail after being taken to Allegheny County Jail and is also facing retail theft charges from a separate incident in Cranberry Township. During the alleged thefts, Bryant engaged in ticket-switching items, such as smoke detectors and digital switches.
Home Depot, in an August report, indicated that they operate a total of 2,326 retail stores across the United States, as well as in various other regions. Company CEO Ted Decker acknowledged that theft has become a significant problem for the retail industry. He noted that it's not merely random shoplifters but often involves reselling products on online marketplaces. To address the issue, Home Depot has had to secure many high-value items, not just large items like power tools but also smaller ones, such as circuit breakers, due to their high theft rates.
