In Texas, a parolee named Donald Lee Hassler finds himself facing a murder charge linked to the disappearance of Sheryl Siddall, a missing grandmother. Siddall, aged 57, went missing from her home in Horseshoe Lake Estates, located in north Liberty County, just northeast of Houston, since September 18. Her niece was the first to report her as missing.
Deputies checked on Siddall's well-being at her home and discovered blood in the kitchen, but they couldn't find her. Her belongings, including her wallet, purse, ID, and vehicle, were all at her house. Despite extensive searches in her community and around the lake behind her house, Siddall remained missing.
Hassler, described as an acquaintance of Siddall, was present at her home when deputies arrived to check on her and has been considered the primary suspect in her disappearance. In his possession, investigators discovered eight firearms. Initially, Hassler was booked into the Liberty County Jail for being a felon in possession of a firearm and for violating parole.
Following his arrest, Hassler remained uncooperative regarding Siddall's disappearance and chose to plead the Fifth Amendment against self-incrimination. He was held without bail while authorities continued their search for Siddall, with no announced date for when the search would resume.
In recent developments, Siddall's family revealed that she did not have a sister in Oklahoma, which contradicts Hassler's earlier claim that she had gone to visit her sister there. Additionally, Siddall's family filed a court petition against Hassler, alleging that he had forged Siddall's signature on a deed on June 30, granting himself general power of attorney.
A fundraising page has also been established to support legal costs in the civil case and Siddall's funeral expenses. The goal is to relieve some of the financial burden from her family, assist with potential monetary needs related to the case, and provide aid to her children who have taken time off work to search for their missing mother and grieve their tragic loss.
