A guy who got shot by an off-duty deputy in Nebraska over the weekend is in a serious but stable condition with a bullet in his chest. He's gonna need more medical attention before they can talk to him, said authorities on Sunday.
The deputy was on his way to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office Law Enforcement Center in Omaha for work, around 5 a.m. on Saturday. He called for help from the on-duty officers because of a big fight going on, as per the authorities.
The off-duty deputy fired his gun, and that's pretty much what the sheriff's office said in a statement on Sunday. They didn't give more details about what happened. This deputy's been with the sheriff's office for almost five years, working with the Uniform Services Bureau, but they didn't say his name.
The guy who got shot is Daveyon Sherman, 27 years old. The sheriff's office mentioned he's in serious but stable condition and said they'll talk to him when he's good to go. Sherman already had some warrants out for his arrest from stuff that happened before the shooting on Saturday.
According to the rules, the deputy will be on paid leave until the sheriff's office, the Omaha Police Department, and the Nebraska State Patrol finish looking into the shooting, said the officials.
