A suspect involved in the theft of a Vermont State Police car and a patrol rifle from inside the vehicle is now in police custody, awaiting a court appearance, according to law enforcement sources.
The stolen police car has been recovered, but unfortunately, the rifle remains missing, as per a statement released by the police on Wednesday evening.
Earlier on Wednesday, witnesses spotted the man walking in Burlington. Despite orders to halt, he didn't comply and was eventually apprehended by state troopers. This 29-year-old individual is expected to be charged in federal court on Thursday for unlawfully possessing a firearm due to prior felony convictions.
The police vehicle was taken from a residence in Rutland on Tuesday morning and was later located elsewhere in the city, as reported by law enforcement.
