A man suspected of killing a 19-year-old woman and injuring three others in South Dallas last week is now in custody at the Dallas County Jail.
Jeremiah Moore was apprehended near Amarillo several hours after the shootings occurred at a townhome complex on Elsie Faye Heggins Street and a nearby car wash.
According to the arrest affidavit, the suspect knocked on a door, and when the complainant's grandmother looked through the window without seeing anyone, the complainant approached the front door. Just before reaching it, multiple shots were fired through the door, fatally striking the complainant.
The victim, 19-year-old Savannah Rodriguez, also known as Savannah Chavez, lost her life in the shooting. Her boyfriend, 18-year-old Christian Morales, sustained gunshot wounds and required surgery. Rodriguez's grandmother, Minerva "Minnie" Arredondo, was also injured but is expected to make a full physical recovery.
Detectives noted that a witness observed the suspect fleeing from the apartment area towards his vehicle, described as an 80s or 90s burgundy car with dark tinted windows. Moore then drove to a nearby carwash, where he opened fire again, injuring another man present.
Martin Ramirez, the brother of Minerva Arredondo, revealed that he inquired about Jeremiah Moore with his sister. She mentioned that they didn't know him personally, but they were aware of his occasional loud arguments and disturbances in the area.
Moore was identified by others in the complex as someone living across the parking lot from the townhome where he fired shots through the front door.
Witnesses also informed police that the same suspect had threatened to shoot individuals he believed were involved with his wife, although the police record does not clarify the context or motive behind his choice to target that particular townhome.
Moore was arrested on the same night of the shootings in Donley County, located 300 miles away from Dallas in the Texas Panhandle. The Dallas Police Fugitive Unit used the Flock System to identify the suspect's vehicle.
The 27-year-old man has been returned to Dallas, where he will face charges of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He is currently held at the Dallas County Jail on a $1 million bond.
In another news, a former Texas sheriff's deputy now faces charges in the hit-and-run death of a California man during the summer, according to prosecutors' statements on Monday. See detailed story here
