A guy accused of murdering his grandparents and uncle in January is now facing charges for another killing that happened exactly eight months later, as per Southern California police.
The Upland Police Department got a call just before noon on Saturday about a shooting at Memorial Park. Witnesses mentioned that the suspect ran away toward the southwest. Deputies arrived and managed to arrest him, recovering the handgun they believe he used in the shooting.
According to jail records, the suspect is 29-year-old Pete Anthony Renteria.
He had been wanted by the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Office since January 30 for allegedly shooting his grandparents, Sonia Ramirez (68) and George Ramirez (72), along with his uncle David Ramirez (43). The three of them were found shot dead around 9 p.m. at their home in unincorporated Montclair, about 30 miles east of Los Angeles.
Reports from The Daily Bulletin newspaper revealed that San Bernardino deputies had been called to the home more than 60 times in the three years leading up to the shooting for various reasons like welfare checks and keeping the peace.
Renteria had been on the run after being identified as a suspect by San Bernardino deputies almost three weeks after the shootings, though they haven't disclosed the motive.
Upland police stated that Renteria had an altercation with the victim at the park on Saturday. After leaving, he returned to specifically target the victim and opened fire. Officers found the 34-year-old victim with multiple gunshot wounds but couldn't save him despite rendering aid.
The victim's name hasn't been released yet. Upland police credited the witnesses and the quick response of officers for Renteria's arrest.
Records indicate that he's being held without bond at the San Bernardino County jail on murder charges.
In another incident, a 9-year-old girl who went missing during a family camping trip has been found safe after a nearly two-day search, and police have a suspect in custody. See detailed story here
