Tragedy Strikes: Family Files Lawsuit After Fatal Yacht Incident That Resulted in The Death Of Enoch Tong in Biscayne Bay
A family has initiated a lawsuit against a yachting company and other entities following the tragic death of their loved one, Enoch Tong, who drowned in Florida's Biscayne Bay in March after jumping from a yacht.
According to the complaint filed in Miami-Dade County, Tong, 20, was part of a group of 13 passengers on the yacht Victoria, chartered for a cruise around Biscayne Bay. The incident occurred when Tong jumped into the water and encountered a rip current, resulting in his inability to stay afloat.
His body was discovered the following day.
During a recent press conference, attorney Pedro Echarte, representing Tong's family, alleged that the yacht crew, including the vessel's owner Darien Fresco, failed to caution Tong and other passengers about the swimming hazards in the water, ultimately leading to the tragic event.
Tong's mother, Mattie Bess, emotionally shared her grief at the press conference, emphasizing the family's desire to prevent others from experiencing similar tragedies.
The lawsuit outlines multiple claims of negligence against Impulsive Life LLC, Starward Yachts Inc, Jones Boat Yard Inc, and several individuals, alleging failure to provide adequate safety measures and warnings regarding the risks of swimming, especially during adverse weather conditions.
The family seeks damages exceeding $50,000, not including additional expenses or attorney's fees, and has requested a trial by jury to address the matters at hand.
During an earlier news conference, Miami Fire Rescue Lt. Pete Sanchez stated that Tong's friends attempted to assist him by throwing life preservers, but the strong current proved insurmountable. While a police investigation was launched, no charges were filed at the time.
Despite attempts to reach Impulsive Life, LLC and Starward Yachts for comments, no immediate response was received. Similarly, Jones Boat Yard was unavailable for comment when approached by the media.
