Tragedy Strikes Hopewell: Woman, Charmel Dawn Mason Fatally Shot, Son Charged in Heartbreaking Incident


A tragic incident unfolded in Hopewell when a city woman lost her life in what authorities have deemed an "accidental" shooting, with her son now facing charges in connection with her death. The untimely event took place at approximately 3:30 p.m. at a residence situated in the 2000 block of Danville Street, as confirmed by police Lt. Jacquita Allen via email. 

The victim, identified as 46-year-old Charmel Dawn Mason, tragically passed away prior to the arrival of law enforcement officers.

Following the incident, 19-year-old Benjamin Tyler Mason, the son of the deceased, was charged with misdemeanor reckless handling of a firearm and is currently in custody without bond at Riverside Regional Jail in Prince George County.
