Tragic Loss in Monroe: Monroe Police Hunt for Juvenile Suspect in Fatal Shooting

 


A fatal shooting in Monroe on Saturday resulted in the death of a man, and authorities are currently searching for a juvenile suspect, as reported by local police. 

The incident took place around 9:40 p.m. on Walkup Avenue, situated between Highway 74 and the Monroe Bypass. The Monroe Police Department has launched a homicide investigation into the case, with the victim identified as 24-year-old Luiz Lopez-Garcia.

In the pursuit of the suspect, detectives have been actively speaking with witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage. 


Due to the suspect's young age, the police have obtained a secured custody order through the North Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice, withholding the release of their identity. Assuring the community, authorities have emphasized that the shooting appears to be an isolated incident, posing no imminent threat to the public.

Expressing condolences to the victim's family, Monroe Police Chief J. Bryan Gilliard asserted the department's commitment to ensuring justice for the tragic loss.
