In the days following a tragic incident in North Las Vegas, Nevada, where a 5-year-old boy lost his life after being hit by a van on his way to school, a 41-year-old man from another state, who was suspected of driving under the influence, has been arrested in connection with the child's death.
Kamari "K.K." Jordan Wolfe, a kindergartener, was struck by a van while crossing the school driveway on his way to Somerset Academy, a charter school in North Las Vegas. His aunt, Tracy Wolfe-Coleman, shared on a GoFundMe page that he was "run over multiple times."
The incident occurred shortly after 7:50 a.m. as the child had just exited his mother's car. According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the van tried to maneuver around a line of stalled vehicles and ended up hitting Kamari.
Witnesses reported that a paramedic and a nursing student immediately administered CPR to Kamari, but tragically, he was later pronounced dead at the hospital, as indicated in Wolfe-Coleman's post. The van's driver allegedly attempted to flee the scene, but concerned parents at the school intervened, preventing his escape.
Guillermo Chochi Senobua, a 41-year-old man, was subsequently taken into custody and booked into the North Las Vegas Community Correctional Center. Online jail records reveal that he is facing a felony charge of driving under the influence, while reports from the Review-Journal and Fox5 suggest that he was also arrested on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter and for not giving his full attention to driving.
This isn't the first time Senobua has faced a driving under the influence charge. Police, after conducting a blood alcohol test, discovered an outstanding warrant for his arrest stemming from a DUI charge in Texas, according to reports by the Review-Journal and Fox5.
Senobua's current legal status, whether he has entered a plea, or secured legal representation, remains unclear.
Law enforcement officials noted that Senobua did not appear to be intoxicated, emphasizing that he cooperated with the investigation and remained at the scene of the fatal incident. The case is currently pending a DUI breath test, and Senobua is being held without bond, as indicated by online records.
As of the time of this publication, the North Las Vegas Police Department had not responded to requests from PEOPLE for additional information regarding the incident.
A touching display of community support unfolded near the school as around 100 individuals, including strangers to the family, gathered for a candlelight vigil on Friday night. They brought candles, flowers, and balloons to commemorate the life of the young boy who had a deep affection for Power Rangers, as reported by the Review-Journal.
Donations to the GoFundMe page will assist Kamari's mother, Jasmyn Wolfe, as she prepares for her son's funeral and cares for his two surviving siblings, according to Wolfe-Coleman. As of Tuesday afternoon, contributions had nearly reached $29,000.
Kari Schultz, Kamari's grandmother, fondly described him as a vibrant and affectionate child who always gave tight hugs, saying, "He was full of life; he gave people hugs and he squeezed them so tight, you know, he just wouldn't let go."
