Trailer of Neglect: Indiana Mom, Lindsey Jo Lydick and Uncle Accused of Subjecting Boy to Shocking Conditions

A mother and uncle from Indiana, who previously pleaded guilty to meth possession, are now facing severe felony charges for alleged neglect of a 10-year-old boy, subjecting him to deplorable conditions in a trailer home filled with waste, mold, maggots, and several animals, including a Great Dane.

According to the probable cause affidavit from the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Department, Lindsey Jo Lydick, 38, and Cole Byron Lydick, 36, both residents of Clayton, were residing along U.S. Highway 40 on October 11. An informant reported that the 10-year-old, referred to as "V1," was living in a place "ENTIRELY COVERED IN ANIMAL URINE, FECES, AND DEBRIS."

Upon arrival, Sgt. Josh Nohren was met with a strong urine odor emanating from the trailer, with dog feces leading up to the front door. With the knowledge that the boy's mother and uncle were living there, he obtained permission to check on the child's well-being.

Inside, the trailer housed a Great Dane and four cats, and the pervasive stench of animal urine grew as the sergeant ventured deeper. The floor was cluttered with debris, and the child slept in a room with his mother despite moldy clothes, cat feces, and a disarrayed environment.

The bathroom was in a shocking state, filled with animal waste, and it seemed the shower hadn't been used recently. Upon opening one of the refrigerators, the sergeant discovered old, moldy food, flies, and gnats, prompting a call to the Department of Child Services (DCS).

A case worker arrived and removed the boy from the hazardous environment, confirming the horrific conditions inside the trailer. Felony neglect of a dependent charges were filed against the defendants, and they were arrested on October 14, booked into the Hendricks County Jail.

Records show Lindsey and Cole Lydick had prior legal troubles, including a 2019 meth possession case, where they pleaded guilty and received probation sentences. Cole Lydick faced probation violation arrests in 2019 and 2020. While he was released from custody, Lindsey Lydick remains incarcerated due to a pending misdemeanor theft case from March 2023.
