Unidentified Man Attacks Parishioner, Leads Police on Pursuit in San Francisco

In San Francisco, a man reportedly assaulted a churchgoer at one of the city's churches on a recent Sunday. Afterward, he threw an unknown object at the pursuing police officers.

An unidentified man showed up at Saints Peter and Paul Church before the Sunday service. He participated in communion, but then he allegedly attacked one of the church attendees. The pastor revealed to a local TV station, KGO-TV, that the man was then chased out of the church.

Around 5:52 p.m., the police received an assault report, leading them to the 600 block of Filbert Street. There, they found the suspect who tried to escape in a vehicle to avoid getting arrested.

During the chase, which extended from the Bay Bridge into the East Bay, the suspect threw an unidentified object at the officers through the car window. KGO-TV described this object as "suspicious items."

The suspect also ignited a pipe bomb on the 1500 block of Jones Street and set off a "molotov cocktail" on 8th Street between Market and Mission. City supervisor Aaron Peskin, who was briefed on the situation, shared this information with The San Francisco Standard.

The pursuit continued onto the freeway, at which point California Highway Patrol units took over and eventually apprehended the suspect. A CHP spokesperson told KGO-TV that the suspect did not throw anything from their car after the agency took control of the pursuit. Nevertheless, they found items inside the suspect's vehicle during the arrest.

San Francisco police have stated that there have been no reports of injuries or property damage connected to the police chase. They have also urged the public to avoid the areas around 8th and Mission streets as well as the 1500 block of Jones Street.
