A Maryland woman is facing serious charges, including attempted murder and arson, following an incident in which she intentionally set her home's front porch on fire while someone was inside on Sunday.
The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office reported that fire crews and the Harford County Sheriff's Office responded to a house fire on Shady Drive around 3 a.m. on Sunday morning. Upon arrival, deputies found the front porch ablaze and promptly extinguished the flames using fire extinguishers.
They later located the homeowner, Christina L. Beattie, at a neighbor's residence. According to the neighbor, Beattie had sought refuge there after an argument with a man who was staying at her home. The neighbor offered Beattie a place to stay for the night while the man remained at her home.
However, approximately 20 minutes later, Beattie left the neighbor's house and returned to her own, only to find it in flames with the man still inside. The State Fire Marshal's Office, assisted by a K9 unit, determined that the fire had been deliberately set.
Christina L. Beattie now faces charges of first- and second-degree arson, first- and second-degree malicious burning, and attempted murder. She has been remanded to the Harford County Detention Center and is being held without bond. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
In another news, the family of an Alabama man who tragically lost his life in a police shooting outside his home early Friday morning is seeking clarity on the incident, according to his brother in a conversation with CNN on Monday. See detailed story here
