Arrest Made in Houston Mother's Murder: A Detailed Account of the Tragic Incident

Two months following the tragic shooting death of a 34-year-old Houston mother in front of her 3-year-old son, a murder suspect has been apprehended by the police.

On Monday, Dominique Menefee, aged 30, was taken into custody and booked into the Harris County Jail. He faces charges of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the demise of Sherniqua Banks, according to a statement from the Houston Police Department.

The incident occurred on September 7, when Banks was discovered fatally shot in the driver’s seat of a crashed car, with her unharmed 3-year-old son in the backseat. A 41-year-old man in the front passenger seat was also shot but is expected to recover.

As per police reports, Banks was driving on West Gulf Bank Road when Menefee, in another vehicle, allegedly started shooting at her car.

Witnesses informed the police that the suspect's car experienced a tire blowout after hitting the curb and fled the scene. A nearby car with matching damage was found, and two individuals were initially detained but later released without charges.

It was believed that the shooter, a third individual, had escaped on foot before the arrival of the officers.

Menefee was eventually identified as the suspect, and on October 25, he was charged for his alleged involvement in the shooting. His plea and legal representation status remain unclear.

According to court documents obtained by KHOU 11, one of the initially detained individuals claimed that Menefee believed someone was following them after leaving a gas station and incorrectly identified Banks' vehicle as the perceived pursuer.

Menefee, previously on parole for aggravated robbery, faced additional charges of felony drug possession and was released on bond just days before the shooting, as reported by Fox 26, citing an official with Crime Stoppers.

While a suspect has been captured, Banks’ mother expressed profound grief, stating, “Whoever let him slip through the cracks they need to be held accountable because my daughter is gone."
