Discovery of Missing Woman's Body in Storage Unit Sparks Investigation; Estranged Husband Faces Imminent Murder Charges.
In Florida, authorities made a grim discovery on Saturday when they found the lifeless body of Shakeira Yvonne Rucker in a storage unit, a week after her mysterious disappearance alongside her estranged husband, 51-year-old Cory Hill.
Last seen on November 11, the Winter Springs Police Department revealed that Hill, already in jail for attempting to murder another woman shortly after Rucker went missing, is now a person of interest in her disappearance and the sole suspect in her tragic death.
Despite not facing criminal charges yet, police disclosed that the couple left Rucker's Winter Springs home together and were later spotted about 70 miles south in Polk County.
On Saturday evening, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about a foul odor emanating from a storage unit in Apopka. Inside, deputies discovered Rucker's lifeless body, bearing gunshot wounds. Sheriff John Mina stated at a press conference on Sunday morning that Hill had fatally shot Rucker in the storage unit, leaving her remains behind.
The unit is registered to Hill, and with him detained at the Orange County Jail without bond, investigators are meticulously gathering evidence to build a case against him. Sheriff Mina assured that Hill would eventually face murder charges in the case.
Expressing condolences, Winter Springs Police Chief Matthew Tract revealed the disappointment of hoping for a different outcome in the case and mentioned that Hill is uncooperative with authorities.
Hill's troubled past came to light as he faced allegations of shooting at his ex-girlfriend's house, an incident that occurred the day after Rucker's last sighting.
Hill's ex-girlfriend reported the terrifying encounter to Orange County Sheriff’s deputies, stating that he shot at her, her cousin, and her two children. Hill allegedly broke into the home, escalating the situation by breaking a kitchen window and demanding to be taken to his ex-girlfriend.
The incident led to Hill's arrest on four counts of attempted murder.
More shockingly, records reveal that over 30 years ago, Hill was charged with second-degree murder in Virginia, where he shot and killed an 18-year-old man, believing the victim had stolen his car with his daughter inside. The jury convicted Hill, sentencing him to 20 years in prison.
This troubling history was unbeknownst to the Rucker family, as Dedra Rucker expressed astonishment, stating, "He had like a history we never knew. He was supposed to be a man of God in the church. We never knew."
