Elderly Jewish man dies after altercation with pro-Palestinian protester

A 69-year-old Jewish man died after a fight with a pro-Palestinian protester at a pro-Israel rally in California. The Ventura County Sheriff's Department is investigating the incident and has not ruled out the possibility of a hate crime.

The man, Paul Kessler, was attending the rally on Sunday afternoon when he got into a verbal altercation with another protester. The altercation turned physical, and Kessler fell to the ground and hit his head. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The sheriff's department is asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has footage of it to contact them.

The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles said that Kessler's death was a "tragedy" and that "violence against our community will not be tolerated."

Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., called Kessler's death "the result of the explosion of antisemitism." He urged people of goodwill to separate themselves from those glorifying and committing violence.

Former Israeli Prime Minister Benny Gantz said that Kessler's death was a "warning light that must reverberate throughout the world." He said that the "murderous ideology of Hamas" is not only Israel's problem and that the entire free world must unite against it.
