Former Teacher, Melissa Marie Curtis Accused of Sexually Abusing Boy in Classroom and Giving Him Alcohol
A former teacher from a middle school in Maryland, Melissa Marie Curtis, 31, residing in Upper Marlboro, was arrested for allegedly engaging in sexual activities with a student multiple times in 2015. The Montgomery County Police Department initiated an investigation on October 5, following the adult victim's disclosure of the incidents.
According to the MCPD, the abuse reportedly began in 2015 when Curtis was 22 and the student was a 14-year-old eighth-grade student at Montgomery Village Middle School, where Curtis worked.
The abuse allegedly took place at various locations, including the school and her vehicle, as mentioned in charging documents reported by WTOP.
DC News Now, which obtained charging documents, stated that the student claimed Curtis sexually abused him in multiple settings, including a classroom, a car, her mother's home, and the student's own residence. The documents also suggest that the student was provided with alcohol and marijuana by Curtis.
As per DC News Now, the student alleged in the charging documents that Curtis had engaged in sexual acts with him more than 20 times. Subsequently, on October 31, authorities issued a warrant for Curtis's arrest, charging her with sexual abuse of a minor and several counts of third and fourth-degree sexual offenses.
Curtis had served as a teacher for approximately two years in Montgomery County, including at Lakelands Park Middle School.
On November 7, Curtis turned herself in and is currently awaiting a bond hearing. Authorities from the Special Victims Investigations Division suspect the possibility of additional victims and urge anyone with relevant information to contact 240-773-5400.
